Our largest Centre in Māngere is on the move and we are preparing to transition to our new flagship, purpose-built Centre in Wiri. The new site will provide state of the art facilities and be considered “best in class” for animal welfare centre’s across Australasia.

As our Centre Manager - Wiri, you will have accountability for a complex, high-volume operation where animal welfare, people leadership, community impact and commercial discipline come together every day.

You’ll lead a 60+ paid team, work alongside volunteers and foster networks and support thousands of animals each year. You’ll partner with our Inspectorate and National Support teams, and have responsibility across people, animal welfare, finance, property, risk, compliance and community outcomes.

What you’ll do

This is a visible, hands-on role. You won’t be leading from behind a desk, you’ll be out in the Centre, working with your people, responding to challenges, building relationships and making decisions that have a direct impact.

You will -

• Lead and develop people: Provide leadership to 60+ paid team members, supported by volunteers and foster networks, creating a culture of accountability, compassion, collaboration and high performance.
• Champion animal welfare: Ensure animals receive excellent care and that Centre capacity, processes and resources support strong welfare outcomes.
• Own Centre operations: Oversee the day-to-day running of a large and complex Centre, balancing competing priorities, resources and operational demands.
• Manage financial performance: Own budgets, resource allocation and cost-effective delivery while ensuring investment supports the Centre’s priorities.
• Drive risk, compliance and best practice: Maintain high standards across health and safety, regulatory compliance, risk management, property and operational practice.
• Partner with Inspectorate: Work closely with our Inspectorate team to support investigations and prosecutions and align Centre capacity with their workload.
• Influence across SPCA: Partner with National Support teams and other Centre’s to share expertise, drive consistency and embed best practice.
• Build community connections: Work with Community Engagement teams to strengthen volunteer and foster networks, support fundraising initiatives and build meaningful relationships with the local community.

You will build on what already works, implement best practice and think differently about how we deliver animal welfare, community and operational outcomes.

What we’re looking for

You’ll be an experienced operational leader who is comfortable with scale, complexity and accountability, you’ll build capability and deliver consistently high standards.

Your leadership experience may come from community services, healthcare, hospitality, retail, facilities, logistics or another complex, people-focused service environment.

This is not your first operational management role, you have done this before, you are resilient, consistent and driven to make our Wiri Centre a success.
