We are seeking a fully qualified, experienced Veterinary Nurse/Tech to join our Invercargill Centre team.
Working closely with a solo vet onsite with overlapping days, you will provide high professional standards of veterinary care for animals presented to, and under the care of, SPCA. Together with our veterinarian, you will assist with the running our newly established veterinary clinic within the Invercargill Centre. In collaboration with the centre veterinarian, you will also receive collegial and professional support from our veterinary teams in Christchurch and Dunedin, when required.

This is your chance to make an exciting, possibly long-considered move from private practice to shelter medicine! This role provides both a unique personal challenge and satisfaction in the knowledge that you will make a real difference to the animals of New Zealand that need our help and care.

What we need from you:

  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience, head nurse or practice management advantageous.
  • Confident with routine surgery and medicine practices including high level of competence around anaesthetic monitoring and pain management.
  • Excellent personal communication skills, including face-to-face, written, video conferencing
  • Strong time management, organisational and planning ability, and budget management
  • Confidence and experience in handling a wide variety of animals (domestic, un-socialised and wildlife)
  • Confidence and experience in making difficult decisions
  • Experience in Shelter medicine is preferred, but not essential
  • A sound understanding of, and empathy with, the goals and values of SPCA
  • Have the ability to work in a high performance, fast paced environment
