ABOUT THE ROLE
SPCA is one of New Zealand's most trusted charities, working to improve animal welfare and advocate for animals in need. Every day, our Centres provide shelter, care and support for vulnerable animals while serving as a vital connection to the communities we support.
That's why we're looking for an experienced and people-focused Centre Manager to lead our Invercargill Centre and help drive positive outcomes for animals, people and the wider community.
- Centre Manager – Invercargill
- Permanent – Full-Time
- Monday to Friday – 8:00am – 4:30pm
As Centre Manager, you'll lead all aspects of Centre operations, ensuring high standards of animal welfare, team performance, customer service, volunteer engagement and community relationships. This is a diverse leadership role where you'll combine operational management, people leadership and community engagement to deliver meaningful impact every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operation of the Centre, ensuring safe, efficient and effective service delivery.
- Ensure all animals receive appropriate care in line with SPCA standards, welfare plans and legal requirements.
- Provide leadership, coaching and support to a multidisciplinary team, including animal care, veterinary, community support and customer service staff.
- Manage Centre budgets, financial performance and resource allocation to ensure long-term sustainability.
- Work collaboratively with Inspectorate teams to support investigations, prosecutions and animal welfare interventions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with volunteers, fosterers, local supporters, stakeholders and community groups.
- Support local fundraising initiatives and community engagement activities.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety, operational policies and legislative requirements.

ABOUT YOU
You're an experienced leader who thrives in a purpose-driven environment and enjoys bringing people together to achieve meaningful outcomes. You're equally comfortable leading teams, managing operations and building strong community relationships.
What we're looking for
- Proven leadership and people management experience leading diverse teams.
- Experience managing complex operations, services or facilities.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
- Financial and commercial acumen, including budget management experience.
- Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced and emotionally demanding environment.
- Experience in animal welfare, shelter management or related sectors is advantageous but not essential.
- Full, clean New Zealand driver's licence.
