ABOUT THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Philanthropy Development Officer based anywhere in New Zealand. This is a permanent, part-time 25-hour role working within our fundraising team. This role is the operational heartbeat of our philanthropy programme.

You’ll support the growth of SPCA’s philanthropic income through grants, donor stewardship, research, coordination and supporter engagement. Working closely with our Grants and Relationship teams, you’ll help ensure our donor and funder experience is thoughtful, organised, personalised and impactful.

One minute you might be researching prospective funders, the next you’re coordinating information for a funding application, preparing a donor impact report, or helping create meaningful stewardship experiences for supporters who make our work possible.

This role is ideal for someone who genuinely loves organisation, building relationships, storytelling, systems, and making things happen behind the scenes.

You’ll play a key role in helping secure funding that protects, cares for and advocates for vulnerable animals across New Zealand.

No pressure… but that’s pretty amazing.

ABOUT YOU

You’re highly organised, proactive, and quietly brilliant at keeping lots of moving pieces flowing smoothly. You love creating order from chaos, you notice the details others miss, and you genuinely enjoy helping people succeed. You’re warm, collaborative, and a natural communicator who understands that donor relationships are built on trust, care and follow-through.

Here’s what makes you stand out:

  • You’re ridiculously organised – spreadsheets, timelines, deadlines and follow-ups are your happy place.
  • You’re a researcher at heart – you love digging for information and spotting opportunities.
  • Your written communication is top notch – you can turn information into compelling, human-centred storytelling.
  • You’re proactive – if something needs doing, you don’t wait to be asked twice.
  • You’re a plate-spinner – juggling multiple priorities and deadlines doesn’t throw you off.
  • You’re tech savvy – CRM systems, databases and admin tools don’t scare you.
  • You understand the importance of donor stewardship – thoughtful communication and attention to detail matter to you.
  • You’re collaborative – you build positive relationships across teams and love working together to get great outcomes.
  • You stay calm under pressure – even when timelines are tight.
  • You’re discreet and professional – you can be trusted with confidential information.
  • You care deeply about purpose-driven work – our mission and values genuinely resonate with you.
  • You bring positive energy – kindness, humour and resilience go a long way around here.

Experience in fundraising, grants, donor development or the not-for-profit sector is helpful, but equally important is your attitude, initiative, emotional intelligence and willingness to learn.
