ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you passionate about using data, technology, and creativity to deliver meaningful marketing experiences? Join SPCA as a Marketing Automation Specialist, where your work will directly support animal welfare by connecting more people to our cause and driving fundraising impact through well-designed, email-led supporter journeys.

As part of the Marketing and Customer Experience team, this role will lead the delivery of SPCA’s email-led supporter engagement programmes, ensuring clear ownership, governance, and best practice across all outbound email and SMS activity.

You will work with teams across Data, Fundraising, Events, Communications and Marketing, and play a crucial role in strengthening how we connect with our supporters. Using data, insights, and automation you will design and optimise meaningful communication journeys.

As a newly created role, this position provides the opportunity to establish and evolve SPCA's approach to email and SMS-led engagement, with significant scope to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Own and manage all outbound email and SMS communications, including governance, approvals, and growth strategy
  • Design, build, and optimise automated supporter journeys across fundraising, marketing, communications, and customer experience
  • Use data and insights to identify opportunities to improve engagement, retention, and performance
  • Establish A/B testing frameworks and deliver reporting that drives continuous improvement
  • Work closely with the Data, Fundraising, Events, and Communications teams to manage integrations, segmentation, and data quality
  • Support the delivery of high-quality, consistent content across email and SMS journeys
  • Contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of SPCA’s SEO/GEO website strategy

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for someone who is both analytical and creative, with a strong understanding of email marketing, lifecycle marketing, and automation. You have experience growing email lists, building and optimising email and SMS campaigns, managing complex automated journeys, and using data to drive smarter decisions. You are confident taking ownership of work end-to-end and influencing stakeholders to deliver meaningful, measurable outcomes.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Proven experience working with marketing automation platforms (e.g. Ubiquity – our current system, HubSpot, Salesforce, etc) in a complex environment
  • Hands-on experience designing and delivering email and SMS campaigns, including segmentation, testing, and optimisation 
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • A solid understanding of email marketing best practice, deliverability, and lifecycle marketing
  • A basic understanding of web SEO/GEO
  • Confidence working with CRM systems and data-driven marketing approaches
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate data and insights into clear, engaging communications
  • A collaborative, proactive approach and the ability to influence across teams
  • Optional: Experience using CMS systems
