SPCA is one of the most trusted and respected charities in New Zealand, with a proud history of helping animals in need and advocating for animal welfare since 1872.  With over 90 Op Shops across New Zealand, we give second-hand goods a new life and every purchase helps rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need. 

We’re excited to be opening a brand-new SPCA Op Shop in Long Bay, bringing our mission to the local community. This new store will be a welcoming, community-focused space where locals can shop, donate, and connect, all while supporting animal welfare.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity at our new Long Bay SPCA Op Shop for a:

  • Op Shop Assistant
  • Part-Time – 16hrs per week
  • Sunday and Monday 8:45am to 5:15pm

Key Responsibilities

  • Work sole charge on rostered days, taking full responsibility for daily shop operations.
  • Receive, sort, price, and merchandise donated goods in line with SPCA guidelines.
  • Ensure the shop is clean, welcoming, and well-stocked throughout the day.
  • Provide friendly and professional customer service
  • Accurately process sales and cash handling, including end-of-day reconciliation.
  • Provide cover and basic team supervision in the manager’s absence.
  • Help support and guide volunteers in their roles.
  • Ensure health & safety and SPCA procedures are followed.

ABOUT YOU
You’re practical, reliable, and enjoy working in a busy retail environment where no two days are the same. You take pride in your work, enjoy helping people, and are comfortable taking responsibility when working on your own.

Skills & Experience

  • Retail experience essential (charity retail a bonus).
  • Confident working sole charge and managing day-to-day shop responsibilities.
  • Able to work flexibly across the shop floor, till, and sorting area.
  • Confident communicator who enjoys helping others.
  • Reliable, organised, and proactive with good attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a team and independently.
  • Basic computer skills, including using a till system and simple data entry.
  • Physically fit and able to lift/move stock as required.
