ABOUT THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity for a:
- Consult Assistant
- Permanent/Part-Time - 16hrs per week
- Based in our Mangere Centre
As a Consult Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for volunteers, visitors, and staff in the Hospital department and reception. You will ensure all interactions are professional, positive, and aligned with SPCA’s values.
You will assist with:
- Supporting the hospital team with reception duties, animal triage, vaccinations, worming, and processing animals from reception to consult
- Maintaining high standards of husbandry, hygiene, and animal handling in line with SPCA procedures and the 5 Freedoms of animal welfare
- Greeting visitors, volunteers, and staff positively, and ensuring the reception and consult areas are clean, welcoming, and fully stocked
- Processing paperwork and data entry accurately and efficiently to maintain smooth operations
- Supporting upset visitors and clients with empathy and discretion
- Collaborating with veterinary and hospital staff to ensure a steady flow of work and high-quality animal care
- Participating in Health & Safety initiatives and maintaining a safe environment for staff, volunteers, visitors, and animals
ABOUT YOU
You are an animal advocate with a passion for animal welfare, care, and education. You enjoy working with both people and animals in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
You will also have:
- Previous customer service and/or veterinary reception experience
- Animal handling experience (preferred)
- A full, clean driver’s licence
- Excellent organisational and multitasking skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with customers, staff, and volunteers
- The ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with integrity
- Resilience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment
