ABOUT THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity for an:

  • Full-time – Animal Welfare Inspector (Training)
  • Fixed Term – 12 Months (with opportunity to move to permanent once qualified)
  • Based in Napier

As an Animal Welfare Inspector, you will be trained to become a fully qualified and warranted Inspector. This role is rewarding, fulfilling, and essential but it can also be physically demanding and emotionally challenging. It takes a special kind of person, but the impact you make on the lives of animals and their communities is immeasurable.

You’ll be part of our frontline Inspectorate Teams, responding to welfare concerns, conducting investigations into animal welfare offending, performing routine welfare checks, and providing guidance and education in the community. You will split your time between driving, engaging with people, handling animals safely, and maintaining accurate notes and records. This role involves a high level of compliance, including the authority to protect animals under the Animal Welfare Act 1999.

ABOUT YOU
You’re an animal advocate, passionate about welfare, care, and education. Our vision, purpose, and values resonate with you, and you enjoy working with both humans and animals.

You will also have:

  • A high level of resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • A full, clean, and current driver’s licence with experience driving automatic and manual vehicles, including utes, trucks, and trailers
  • Animal handling experience and knowledge
  • Influencing and conflict management skills
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • The ability to think on your feet and make decisions independently
  • Excellent documentation, compliance, and record-keeping skills
  • A positive, friendly approach to customers, animals, and team members
