ABOUT THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity for an:

  • Animal Attendant
  • Casual – As and when required
  • Based in Levin

As an Animal Attendant, you will be the human our animals rely on while they are in our care. This role is rewarding, fulfilling, and essential—but it can also be physically demanding and emotionally challenging. You’ll see both the best and the hardest moments of animal welfare work, and the difference you make truly matters.

You will ensure all animals in the Centre are cared for to a high standard, adoption pathways are maximised, and animal records are kept accurate and up to date. You’ll assist with routine veterinary visits, monitor animal health and behaviour, administer medication, and support enrichment, socialisation, and behaviour modification activities.

You’ll work closely with team members and volunteers to improve animal outcomes, handle adoption enquiries in person, by phone, and online, and collaborate with other departments to ensure animal areas are operating safely and effectively.

ABOUT YOU
You’re an animal advocate with a genuine passion for animal welfare, care, and education. SPCA’s vision, purpose, and values resonate with you, and you enjoy working with both people and animals in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

You will also have:

  • Animal handling experience and knowledge
  • Experience working with volunteers, including building capability and engagement
  • Influencing and conflict management skills
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • The ability to think on your feet and adapt to changing priorities
  • A positive and friendly approach to customers, animals, and team members
  • High levels of empathy and resilience
  • Experience working in a busy environment where multitasking is essential
  • Experience in a customer-facing, community-based role
