SPCA Hawkes Bay are seeking a Customer Service Coordinator to be based at our Hastings Center. Preferred applicants will have excellent communication and customer service skills, the ability to handle conflict and stressful situations and a friendly and positive attitude.

  • Hours of work: Monday to Friday 8:30am – 5pm (40 hours per week)
  • Location: SPCA Hasting

About The Role
As a Customer Service Coordinator, the successful applicant would be in charge of the reception area, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of our front-of-house by performing a variety of duties to a high standard. You will process animal adoptions including discussions with potential adopters to match the right animals with the right person. You will triage animal ambulance calls, schedule foster pick up and return appointments and induct our new foster parents. You will work with community stakeholders and veterinary partners, to provide a positive physical and visible presence representing the SPCA in local communities.
The position will be busy, exciting, challenging and you would be working with like-minded people who get the opportunity to make a difference every day. 

Duties will include:

  • Provides excellent customer service to SPCA visitors.
  • Provides administrative support to the centre, including data entry.
  • Dealing with all incoming enquiries regarding animal adoptions, retail, general enquiries and SPCA services in person, via phone or email.
  • Ensuring all members of the public are treated in a non-judgmental manner, with respect and empathy.
  • Responding to calls, emails and messages in a timely manner with accurate and helpful information. 
  • Working flexibly, professionally, and collaboratively to ensure reception is operating in an effective and responsive manner.
  • Ensuring that all aspects of the SPCA Volunteer Program achieves organisational goals and operates in alignment with the organisational brand, strategy, and available resources.
  • Ensuring SPCA cash handling and financial requirements are met.

About You
We are seeking a confident person with excellent people skills and a passion for animal welfare to join our busy SPCA team.

  • Have excellent computer skills and be reliable.
  • Have an excellent work ethic while demonstrating empathy and resilience.
  • Have excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to handle conflict situations with empathy and a friendly attitude. 
  • Have good interpersonal skills – ability to build rapport with employees, volunteers, other stake holders and suppliers
  • Be a self-motivated team player, who is enthusiastic and passionate about animal welfare.
  • Be a quick thinker who is skilled at multi-tasking.
  • Effective time management skills, organisation and planning abilities.
  • Have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and must have a love for working with both people and animals.
  • Having practical animal-handling experience and knowledge is an advantage.
