About the role
We have an exciting opportunity at our SPCA Wellington Centre for a:
- Animal Attendant
- Permanent – Full-Time
- 40 hours per week, Monday to Sunday as rostered
As an Animal Attendant, you’ll play a key part in ensuring the health, welfare, and happiness of animals in SPCA’s care.
Key responsibilities
- Provide high-quality care, feeding, and hygiene for animals in SPCA’s custody
- Support animal enrichment, socialisation, and behavioural training
- Administer treatments and assist with veterinary or rehabilitation plans as directed
- Keep accurate records of animals’ health, behaviour, and plans
- Deliver excellent customer service to visitors, volunteers, and fosterers
- Assist with adoptions and educate the public on animal welfare
- Support team operations and contribute to a positive, collaborative workplace
- Actively promote and maintain health and safety practices
About you
You’ll be a compassionate, reliable team player who’s committed to animal welfare and can thrive in a busy, hands-on environment.
You will have:
- Proven experience in animal care, handling, and welfare
- A relevant qualification (e.g. Certificate or Diploma in Animal Care, Welfare or Behaviour) – desirable
- Confidence handling domestic animals (experience with farm animals an advantage)
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Strong attention to detail and record-keeping ability
- Physical fitness and resilience to work in an emotionally demanding environment
- A full, clean driver’s licence (manual preferred)
Bonus points for:
- Experience working or volunteering in an animal shelter, kennel, cattery, or similar environment
- Customer service experience
- Experience working with or supporting volunteers
