The SPCA helps protect over 30,000 animals every year. By rescuing, rehabilitating, sheltering and advocating for animals, we are directly improving their lives. Our Animal Services teams run our 28 Centres, from Kerikeri to Invercargill and they are essential in us being able to do the work we do.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Centre Manager to lead our Timaru Centre. This is a permanent, full-time role (Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm).
This role is both rewarding and challenging. You will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Centre, including:

  • Leading and developing a high-performing team of staff and volunteers.
  • Ensuring high standards of animal welfare, health and safety, and compliance with national protocols.
  • Overseeing Centre finances, budgets, and reporting to ensure sustainability.
  • Working closely with the Inspectorate team to support investigations and manage Centre capacity.
  • Maintaining the Centre to a safe, welcoming and professional standard.
  • Building strong relationships with the community, including local supporters, fundraisers and partner agencies.
  • Supporting national and local fundraising initiatives to strengthen the SPCA brand and impact.

 

ABOUT YOU
This role requires more than a love of animals, it requires strong leadership, operational management, and community engagement skills. To be successful, you will bring:

  • Proven people management and leadership experience (staff and/or volunteers).
  • Strong organisational, planning and financial management skills.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and conflict management skills.
  • Experience in compliance, health & safety, and maintaining high professional standards.
  • The ability to stay calm and make sound decisions in a busy, emotional, and sometimes challenging environment.
  • A genuine passion for animal welfare and commitment to SPCA’s mission.
  • (Desirable) Experience in shelter management, animal handling, or animal welfare.
