ABOUT THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity at our Rototua SPCA Centre for a:
- Volunteer and Foster Coordinator
- Permanent – Full-Time
- Sunday to Thursday 8.00am - 4.30pm
Our Rototua team is known for their warmth, flexibility, and strong relationships with our amazing network of volunteers and foster families who go above and beyond for the animals in our care.

ABOUT YOU
This is more than just a coordination role it’s an opportunity to build meaningful relationships and directly impact animal lives. You’ll be working with a diverse range of people and helping them succeed in their roles as volunteers or fosterers, all while ensuring our animals receive the best possible care.
You’ll need excellent organisational skills, a confident and friendly manner, and a passion for both people and animals. You’re a natural problem solver, a strong communicator, and love creating supportive, well-run programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and grow a network of foster families and volunteers to meet centre needs
- Match animals to foster homes and ensure transitions are safe, supported, and stress-free
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing support for volunteers and fosterers
- Maintain rosters and scheduling, providing cover and continuity when needed
- Promote volunteer/foster engagement and retention through regular recognition and communication
- Monitor animal health and care standards within foster homes
- Maintain accurate records and databases to support planning and reporting
- Collaborate across departments to improve systems, solve problems, and enhance the volunteer and foster experience
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in volunteer management, coordination, or support
- Experience in animal care or welfare (certificate or qualification desirable)
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Strong administrative and computer skills, including MS Office and databases
- Ability to plan, prioritise, and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence
- Empathy, resilience, and a strong commitment to SPCA’s mission
