Job Description

The SPCA Op Shop in Remuera is seeking a reliable, experienced individual to take ownership of the store’s day-to-day operations.

This is a key role that will require strong leadership and initiative as you manage both the retail and volunteer aspects of the store, with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the community and animal welfare.

This role is ideal for someone with significant retail experience, particularly in second-hand or charity shops, who can work independently and thrive in a dynamic, community-focused environment. You’ll be instrumental in shaping the store’s success from the ground up while fostering a welcoming atmosphere for both customers and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a team of volunteers during your shifts
  • Provide outstanding customer service to our shoppers
  • Sort, price, and merchandise donated goods to maximise sales
  • Maintain a clean and organised store, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere
  • Process daily cash handling, banking, and administrative tasks
  • Assist in visual merchandising of fashion, homewares, and more
  • Ensure that the shop meets health and safety standards

About You

  • Retail experience is essential; second-hand or op shop experience is a strong advantage
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Friendly, positive, and solutions-focused attitude
  • Experience working with or leading volunteers is an advantage
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage workloads
  • Strong administration and computer skills, including POS systems
  • A passion for supporting animal welfare and the SPCA’s mission
  • Motivated, reliable, and a great team player
