Our Animal Services teams run our 28 Centres, from Kerikeri to Invercargill and they are essential in us being able to do the work we do.

We have Centre Managers, Vets, Vet Nurses, Animal Attendants, Foster Coordinators, Customer Services Officers and everything in between. About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Veterinarian based in our Mangere Centre. This is a permanent part time role, working 1 shift (6.5 hours) per week, usually worked on a weekend. There is the potential to pick up additional shifts during the week and public holidays.

In this role you get to see the best and the worst. It is a rewarding, fulfilling, and essential role, as well as demanding, heartbreaking and physical. It takes a special kind of person to do this role but what you get back can really fill your cup.

You will make the most of your clinical experience working closely with our Vet Nurse to ensure all animals presented to, and under the care of SPCA, are given high standards of veterinary care.

You will get support from our Head Vet however you will be working autonomously in a role which provides both a unique personal challenge and satisfaction in the knowledge that you will make a real difference to the animals that need our help and care, our most vulnerable animals.

About you

You’re an animal advocate, you are passionate about animal welfare, care and education. Our vision, purpose and values resonate with you and you have a love for working with both humans and animals.

You will also have –

  • A fully qualified and professionally registered Vet
  • Strong clinical skills
  • Experience doing surgical procedures both routine and non-routine, particularly desexing procedures
  • Experience in high volume spay neuter programmes
  • Ability to work sole charge
  • Be able to prioritise and effectively manage workloads
  • Have the ability to work in an environment that changes every day and be passionate about both people and animals
  • Experience or understanding of Shelter medicine is preferred, but not essential
