ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for an enthusiastic Op Shop Assistant to join our amazing team at the SPCA Whangarei Op Shop on Port Road! This is a permanent part-time role, working Thursday, Friday and Saturdays 10 am to 4 pm with flexibility needed to cover shifts as needed. This is a sole charge role therefore you will need to be comfortable and confident on your own and leading volunteers. If you love retail, have a flair for merchandising, and enjoy working with a passionate group of people, this could be the perfect role for you!

What you’ll do:

• Lead and train the team of volunteers on your shifts.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and create a welcoming environment.
• Achieve sales targets to support SPCA’s vital animal welfare work.
• Process, sort, and price donated goods.
• Style and merchandise fashion and homewares to maximise revenue.
• Handle daily cash-up and banking procedures.
• Maintain a safe and tidy shop environment in line with Health & Safety guidelines.

 
ABOUT YOU
You’re a retail pro who loves working with people and has a heart for animal welfare! You enjoy leading a team, providing fantastic customer experiences, and keeping things running smoothly.

What you’ll bring:

• Retail experience (bonus points for second-hand retail experience!).
• Excellent communication and customer service skills with a can-do attitude.
• Experience in leading people, ideally in a not-for-profit or volunteer-based environment.
• A positive, self-motivated team player who’s always ready to roll up their sleeves.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks.
• Confidence in administration, computer skills, and cash handling.
• A creative eye for visual merchandising and store presentation.
