ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a passionate Animal Attendant to join our Greymouth SPCA team in a casual role, with flexibility to assist at our Hokitika Centre. If you want to make a real difference in animals' lives, this is the perfect opportunity!
What you'll do:
- Ensure the appropriate care and welfare of all animals at the centre.
- Enhance adoption opportunities by thoughtfully showcasing and sharing the stories of our animals.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date animal database.
- Coordinate routine veterinary visits and assist in preparing animals for procedures.
- Work with staff and volunteers to improve animal pathways and volunteer experience.
- Respond to inquiries regarding animal adoption, both in-person and online.
- Coordinate with teams to ensure efficient operations and meet objectives.
- Monitor animal health, administer medication, and assist with behaviour enrichment and modification.

ABOUT YOU
You are an animal welfare advocate who thrives in a busy environment and has a deep passion for animal care. With excellent communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and experience in animal handling and basic care, you will be an essential part of our team.
What you’ll bring:
- Practical animal-handling experience and knowledge of animal behaviour and basic care.
- Applicable tertiary qualification in animal care, behaviour, or welfare.
- Experience in a similar role within an animal care environment.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to handle challenging situations.
- Computer proficiency and excellent data-entry skills, including Microsoft Office.
- A flexible, team-oriented approach and a passion for animal welfare.
- A full, current New Zealand driver’s licence.
- The ability to work actively and physically in a fast-paced environment.
