ABOUT THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a fully qualified Vet based in our Dunedin Centre for 24 hours per week. You get to choose your hours and days as long as its Monday – Friday, no weekend work here!

What you’ll do:

  • Provide high-quality care alongside a veterinary nurse for animals in SPCA’s care.
  • Work independently, with support from our Head Vet when needed.
  • Perform routine and non-routine surgeries, including desexing procedures.
  • Handle a variety of animals (domestic, un-socialised, and wildlife).
  • Adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment while prioritising both animal welfare.
  • Align with SPCA’s values, demonstrating empathy in all interactions.
  • Build strong relationships with staff, volunteers, stakeholders, and suppliers.

ABOUT YOU
You thrive in a busy, dynamic environment, handling a diverse caseload in a well-equipped clinic with everything you need. With resilience, empathy, and excellent communication skills, you’ll navigate the physical demands of the role while handling emotional situations with ease.

What you’ll bring:

  • A full veterinary qualification with current professional registration.
  • Solid experience in clinical practice.
  • Competence with computer systems; experience with Ezyvet is a plus.
  • Experience or understanding of shelter medicine (preferred but not essential).
  • Ideally, experience in high-volume spay/neuter programmes.
